Custom clothing is a reasonable option falling between boring & problem-beset factory-made ready-to-wear on the one hand, & insanely priced haute couture on the other. It
means unique garments that meet your individual needs & dreams, in
the fabric, fit & design of your choosing, whether in recycled or
new materials.
Lyric Couture designer Alice B. Fogel has been a New England member of the national Professional Association of Custom Clothiers. For a custom clothier near you, visit www.paccprofessionals.org or www.findadressmaker.com.

SUIT YOUR FANCY!
After
a century of assembly-line, industrial garment-making, most of us have
forgotten that clothing was once hand made, one item at a time, by
trained tailors & dressmakers
for customers with individual tastes.
Now we have ready-to-wear (often of less than stellar fabrics, design & construction)
for the masses,
and haute couture (at phenomenal costs) for the privileged few.
But YOU have a reasonable & exciting option in between,
especially if you are hard to fit or have unusual aesthetic leanings:
The custom clothier.
WHAT IS A CUSTOM CLOTHIER?
Custom clothiers are sewing professionals who make individual, unique garments
that meet a customer’s singular desires & preferences.
While you may or may not be able to sew your own occasional clothing, a custom clothier
has the specialized training & experience to work with you as both partner & guide,
to save you time, make fabulous fabric & color choices, and offer designs, ideas & styles
particular to your needs & dreams.
HOW IT WORKS
In your initial consultation with your CC, you’ll discuss your needs and her services,
agree on a time & payment schedule (by the hour or the job),
and plan shopping requirements & responsibilities.
With your measurements, the CC will adapt or create a pattern from which she’ll make a toile
(a muslin mock-up) of the desired design.
A fitting will yield necessary adjustments for the CC to make.
The marked & disassembled toile becomes the garment pattern.
Next the CC will prepare, cut & sew the fabric.
During subsequent fittings, further discussion of changes, trims, etc., can occur
before the final completion of your garment.
